I don't iike to discuss this much because it's pretty personal but it needs to be told. When I was young, five, my parents were separated. My mom had custody of me and my two sisters. Well, my father kidnapped me and took me to Florida for a year. (Actually, he took me all over the place to evade police, and we eventually wound up in Florida.)
Although my mom had custody and my dad was far from a fit father, the police didn't do anything. In the 70's, men had all the rights and women had to struggle just to get a separation or divorce. (Mom had to actually sneak away with us one day while my father was at work because she couldn't get a legal separation. Later she got custody and a legal separation in court.)
My mom had to hire one private investigator after another to find me, on a shoe string budget. Most of these PI's proved worthless and simply ripped her off without even looking for me. Eventually, though, my mom hired a man named Ernie Rizzo. (Ernie later became popular for getting kids back, as well as for his work on the OJ Simpson case.)
After a year, my mother finally got me back. My father had told me so many horror stories about her, it took her months to win my affection and confidence again. It was awful for both of us, as well as my sisters.
I think about my poor mom going through that pain, of losing a child and not knowing if you'll ever see him again, and then now so unnecessarily going through the crap through which Walter is putting her. It's so sad. Yet, she perseveres without complaint.
