Walter Mahaffay is a man who seems to have significant means. Rudy Kara entrusted him to manage the inheritance he left behind. Instead, it appears as though Walter stole it for himself, leaving my mom, Susan Coburn, nearly broke and without financial means. The inheritance amount was a little over $210,000. (Click "The Story" on the menu bar to read the inconceivable story.)

Here's what I know about Walter. All this information is public knowledge, as long as you know where to look, and the displaying of it does not violate any privacy laws.

  • Walter has two children, both around or in their teenage years, I believe.
  • He is married to his wife, Lynne Mahaffay.
  • Walter married Lynne after getting her pregnant in high school.
  • Walter and his wife own Grundy Supply, which appears to be located in Morris, IL. Grundy Supply is a Facility Maintenance and Foodservices operation, also categorized as a restaurant equipment and supplies service.
  • Walter appears to have an inoperative real estate license.
  • Walter and Lynne own and most likely reside in a property at 675 N. Fifth Ave. in Coal City, IL. In 2006 the property was valued at approximately $670,000.
  • In 2005 Walter sold the former property location of his business for approximately $223,000.
  • In 2001 Walter and Lynne apparently sold a property in Minnesota for approximately $251,000.

It does indeed appear that Walter is pretty well off; certainly, he is doing much better than the 66-year-old widow from whom he appears to have stolen.
